bio.inspecta strengthens its commitment in West Africa – FairWild certification for sustainable shea nut sourcing in Ghana
The Swiss-based bio.inspecta AG, a leading certification body for sustainability and organic standards, is expanding its international presence and significantly scaling up its certification activities in West Africa.
A major milestone is the world’s first FairWild certification for a shea project: the Kolo Nafaso Shea program by AAK has been successfully audited and certified by bio.inspecta in Ghana.
AAK is a global leader in plant-based oils and fats used in food, cosmetics, and personal care products, and has long been committed to responsible and transparent supply chains.
Certification under the rigorous FairWild criteria confirms the sustainable and legal harvesting of wild shea nuts across approximately 400,000 hectares in Ghana (West Africa). The program enhances the livelihoods of over 230,000 women while safeguarding the fragile shea ecosystems.
«This first FairWild certification for shea sets a new benchmark for ethical sourcing and demonstrates the power of collaboration between industry and independent standard-setting organizations.»
— Deborah Vorhies, CEO FairWild
Strong expansion in West Africa
bio.inspecta now operates in 38 countries and works according to Bio Suisse, EU Organic, and NOP standards.
In 2025, the company significantly expanded its client base in West Africa. In addition to fresh and processed fruit, the focus is on the wild harvesting of shea nuts and the production of high-quality shea butter.
A joint step towards a sustainable future
The partnership between AAK, FairWild, and bio.inspecta marks a major milestone for the future of sustainable and fair raw material sourcing – from harvest to finished formulation.
bio.inspecta will continue to strengthen its commitment in West Africa and support projects that combine environmental responsibility, fair working conditions, and sustainable supply chains.
