Organic farming remains close to his heart – Dieter Scheibler joins the Board of Directors of bio.inspecta

Dieter Scheibler, Board of Directors

Anyone who knows Dieter Scheibler knows that organic farming is far more than just a production method to him. It has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. His parents embraced organic farming as early as 1953. Dieter himself converted his farm to organic production in 1996 and ran the Scheibler organic farm in Oftringen for many years with dedication and conviction.

A few years ago, we published an in-depth portrait of Dieter and his farm. Since then, much has changed: he has handed over the farm to one of his sons and taken on new responsibilities. However, he remains closely connected to agriculture, particularly organic farming.

Today, Dieter Scheibler brings his extensive experience and practical farming perspective to his role as a member of the Board of Directors of bio.inspecta. He understands first-hand the challenges agricultural businesses face in their daily operations, as well as the developments that have shaped the organic sector over the years.

New responsibilities and new perspectives
Since handing over the farm to his son, Dieter's daily life has changed. Responsibility for the farm now lies with the next generation. For him, this primarily means no longer having to deal with every administrative task or constantly keep track of everything.

However, he has not stepped away from the farm entirely. He continues to work there on a 20% basis and lends a hand whenever possible. During the first year following the handover, which has not been without its challenges, he is particularly keen to support his son with advice and practical assistance.

At the same time, Dieter has taken on new responsibilities. Since 8 March 2026, he has served as an elected member of the municipal council of Oftringen. It is a role he enjoys and one that offers him fresh insights.

"Serving on the municipal council is very interesting and a completely new experience for me. It is fascinating to look at things from a different perspective and to contribute wherever my experience can add value."

Dieter also continues to serve as Vice President of the Swiss Vegetable Producers Association (VSGP), a position he will hold for approximately another year and a half.

Bringing 40 years of practical experience to bio.inspecta
By joining the Board of Directors of bio.inspecta, Dieter has assumed another role that allows him to contribute his extensive experience while gaining new perspectives himself.

The invitation came from his long-standing friend and associate Ueli Steiner, who approached him about joining the Board of Directors.

For Dieter, this was an opportunity to continue his commitment to organic farming in a new capacity.

"Organic farming has shaped my life for many years. As a member of the Board of Directors, I want to contribute the experience I have gained over 40 years of practical farming while also discovering new perspectives myself. I look forward to this new challenge and to meeting new people."

He is particularly keen to represent the perspective of agricultural businesses and strengthen the connection between certification requirements and the practical realities of everyday farming.

Between rising requirements and economic pressure
Organic farming has evolved considerably over the past few decades. New requirements, changing conditions and the expectations of the agricultural sector, the market and society continue to present the industry with new challenges.

Dieter has experienced these developments first-hand. One issue that particularly concerns him is the increasing economic pressure on agricultural businesses.

"What concerns me most is the very strong pressure on prices that I experience regularly during annual negotiations with major buyers, and which is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. At the same time, the requirements placed on producers continue to increase. However, farms also need to remain economically viable."

Alongside these economic challenges, Dieter sees climate change, the preservation of soil fertility and the responsible use of natural resources as key issues for the future of organic farming. Increasing bureaucracy is another challenge, placing ever greater demands on agricultural businesses.

Dieter therefore wants to use his extensive experience as an organic farmer to bring the concerns and challenges of producers to the Board of Directors.

Staying connected to farming while looking to the future
His role may have changed, but his connection to agriculture remains as strong as ever. As a member of the Board of Directors, Dieter wants to help ensure that bio.inspecta continues to develop with a practical approach and a clear understanding of the needs of agricultural businesses.

He has clear hopes for the coming years, both for bio.inspecta and for organic farming as a whole:

"I hope that bio.inspecta will continue to stand for credibility, professional expertise and a close connection to farming practice. And that organic farming will remain attractive to the next generation. I also hope that people will reflec on the way they eat and make conscious choices about the food they buy, rather than simply buying something to eat."

This wish shows that Dieter's commitment to organic farming remains undiminished, even after handing over the farm to the next generation.
