Will the feed last until spring?

Past years have shown that a feed reserve corresponding to the farm provides relief in spring. The spring of 2023 in particular showed that grazing the wet areas was not possible in many places, meaning that stable feeding was still the order of the day.

Past years have shown that a feed reserve corresponding to the farm provides relief in spring. The spring of 2023 in particular showed that grazing the wet areas was not possible in many places, meaning that stable feeding was still the order at the time. As a result, feed stocks decrease very quickly and then have to be compensated for by short-term - and often more expensive - feed purchases from abroad.

An assessment of current feed stocks and livestock numbers provides an overview. This makes it possible to assess whether it is worth procuring additional feed now and going into the winter with peace of mind. Offers from farmers and traders can be found on biomondo.ch.

Exceptional authorisations for the purchase of non Swiss Bud basic feed must be applied for with bio.inspecta AG. Authorisation can only be requested for meadow and pasture fodder such as hay, silage and grass. No authorisations can be granted for arable crops.

The current situation on the market is continuously analysed by Bio Suisse in collaboration with the Roughage Association and the inspection bodies, and the authorisation practice is interpreted accordingly.
