High welfare livestock housing (BTS)

Livestock housing must fulfil the natural needs of the animals kept. Every animal has permanent access to two spatially separated areas, e.g. one area for feeding and one for resting. The resting areas must be suitably bedded.

The Swiss Confederation supports high welfare livestock housing with direct payments.
We inspect for compliance with BTS on the occasion of the annual farm inspection.
